El consejero de Cultura, Juventud y Deportes, Pedro Alberto Cruz, y la directora del Instituto de la Juventud, Verónica López, han visitado hoy el Campo de Trabajo de Arqueología de Caravaca de la Cruz que se desarrolla en el yacimiento del “Cerro de las Fuentes” con la participación de jóvenes procedentes de países como Francia, Polonia, Corea del Sur y Japón. Antes de desplazarse al yacimiento, localizado en la pedanía de Archivel, Pedro Alberto Cruz y Verónica López han recorrido las instalaciones del Centro Joven en compañía del alcalde de Caravaca, Domingo Aranda, y de la concejal de Juventud, Antonia Mª Álvarez.
El proyecto del Centro Joven ha culminado recientemente con la ejecución de las obras correspondientes a la tercera fase con las que se ha dotado al centro de nuevas dependencias destinadas a aulas de formación y despachos para el servicio Informajoven y las asesorías de vivienda y temas jurídicos. Con las inversiones realizadas en los últimos meses el Centro Joven aglutina distintos servicios encaminados a satisfacer las necesidades y demandas de los jóvenes del municipio en materia de formación, ocio y tiempo libre. Salas de ensayo para grupos musicales, rocódromo, aulas de nuevas tecnologías, aulas de estudio y salas para talleres y seminarios son algunas las dependencias que forman parte del Centro Joven. En las declaraciones ofrecidas a los medios de comunicación, Pedro Alberto Cruz ha afirmado que el Centro Joven de Caravaca es uno de los más completos y mejor estructurados de la Región con espacios destinados a la formación, información y tiempo libre de los jóvenes. Tanto el alcalde como el consejero de Cultura han recordado el reto del próximo Año Santo 2010 asegurando que durante ese acontecimiento Caravaca será epicentro de la cultura de la Región con actividades en las que se tendrán muy presentes los gustos de los jóvenes.
Por otra parte, Pedro Alberto Cruz ha supervisado el trabajo realizado por los 25 jóvenes estudiantes de Historia y Arqueología en el yacimiento del “Cerro de las Fuentes” dentro del campo de trabajo de arqueología organizado por el Instituto de la Juventud en colaboración con la Concejalía de Juventud del Ayuntamiento de Caravaca. En el paraje del “Cerro de la Fuente” se ha localizado un castillo tardo-republicado romano del siglo I a.C, época en la que tuvo lugar la guerra civil entre Julio César y Pompeyo Magno. Esta construcción, tal y como ha explicado el director de la excavación, Francisco Brotons, esta dotada de un excelente y original sistema defensivo, en el que destaca una puerta de acceso flanqueada por sendas torres cuadradas y un impresionante antemuro con bastiones rectangulares de unos 11 m de longitud.
Las labores realizadas en el campo de trabajo están proporcionando valiosos datos para reconstruir la actividad militar de los contendientes en la cuenca alta de los ríos Argos y Quípar, lo que permite documentar y conocer un importante episodio bélico que nunca fue mencionado por las fuentes históricas. Por debajo de los restos del castillo afloran las ruinas de un poblado de la Edad del Bronce y por encima, se han hallado las crestas de los muros de la retícula urbana de época emiral, que corresponden a la última fase de ocupación del Cerro de las Fuentes.
Esta edición del campo de trabajo, que se prolongará hasta el próximo día 10 de agosto, las tareas se han centrado en la limpieza y excavación arqueológica del área del yacimiento situada entre las dos torres de la puerta del ‘castellum’, exactamente en las habitaciones que flanquean el pasillo de ingreso, y la consolidación de las estructuras de la muralla de la fase republicana romana y de las casas emirales. Asimismo, se están llevando a cabo procesos de registro estratigráfico en fichas normalizadas, dibujos de plantas y secciones, fotografía arqueológica e inserción de las estructuras afloradas en la topografía general del yacimiento.
